Review:
COSMOPOLITAN GIRLS is hardcore porn attempting to cash in on the burgeoning image (at that time) of Helen Gurley Brown's magazine archetype. Notable XXX director Roger Watkins took it easy this time out, but the film emerges as an okay diversion.

Most notable here is casting fresh (and decidedly short-lived in the business) talent instead of just rounding up the usual NYC performers. Gals are normal-looking rather than raving beauties = meant to represent Cosmo readers rather than models whose photos appear in the mag.

Watkins uses various techniques to maintain a cross-sectional approach instead of a normal storyline. Montages unite the girls, and obviously, with tongue-in-cheek, at the end of the day, there is presented shots of each girl solo at home masturbating. For all I know, that was part of HG Brown's mantra to her loyal followers.

Occupations covered include a dental hygienist, secretary and model, while other femmes (including a prostitute engaging in anal sex) are also thrown into the mix. It's very well-shot and edited, but amounts to no more than an imagined slice of life. Far more interesting would have been if some porn director had followed in Michael Apted's footsteps (the Btitish kids every 7 years) or even recent Richard Linklater stunt BOYHOOD and followed porn starlets in their lives at say 10 year intervals, to see what became of them (since only rarely in the case of Sharon Mitchell or Sharon Kane do we track them seemingly forever on screen).
