Review:
Teri Diver, a vastly underrated Adult performer and director who tragically died at a young age, wrote the ingenious screenplay for this feature about phone sex. Little known, it deserves to be discovered as an example of how a well-written porn film can both surprise and delight.
She has a major role, yet all we see of Teri are frequent closeup shots of her ruby red lips talking into the telephone plus closeups of her pussy as she masturbates. It's her voice that dominates the action, literally.
That's because she serves as a puppetmaster, addicting most of the characters to her phone sex service and then telling them what to do and who to have sex with. She appears to be both an alluring and malevolent force bordering on a Svengali influence, but in the final reel her true nature is revealed.
Among those under her spell (her character is named Monique) are Howard (Mike Horner), who cheats on his wife with his secretary and other women as controlled by Monique; Howard's partner Steve (Jesse Eastern), likewise cheating on his wife Tracey Adams; Barbara (Sunny McKay), who Monique fixes up with her gigolo employee Nick East; and even Tracey when she discovers Monique's phone number used by her husband.
The cast is quite convincing in their roles, and the mysterious nature of the Monique character is well-sustained in Teri's script and Michael Craig's direction. It adds up to a highly original erotic drama that would have made for a classic softporn feature during this period when Shannon Whirry and Shannon Tweed reigned supreme in the genre.
