Review:
The late Alex DeRenzy has achieved legendary status as a director of adult films. Thankfully, VCA has a back catalog of his films which is slowly, but surely being released on DVD. Among them are STEAMY WINDOWS (starring a scorching Rachel Ryan and Danielle Rodgers), MALIBU SPICE (featuring Ashlyn Gere and Angela Summers at their best), and this classic featuring superstar Amber Lynn, LET'S GET IT ON. Originally released in the late 1980s, LET'S GET IT ON remains a critically lauded movie which historically has always been high on the list of recommended Amber Lynn films. As hot as she is in this movie, I was far more impressed with the Melissa Melindez, Brittany Stryker and John Leslie threesome which is probably more erotic than 90% of the new release DVDs in anyone's collection. This disc is not perfect, however, as VCA has unceremoniously removed an entire scene from the original movie involving Shanna McCullough, which will be discussed later. But overall, don't let the dated hairstyles and non-gonzo style direction fool you; LET'S GET IT ON is still a great film and deserving of its classic status.
Attractive brunette Katie Thomas is the narrator of this film and an active participant in a straightforward girl-guy scene at the end of this movie, which is basically a collection of individual vignettes featuring some classic adult stars. Amber Lynn's scene with Tom Byron is fast and furious, but curiously, lacks any display of her superb oral skills. In any other feature, it would be an outrage to deny the viewer an opportunity to perform her simply magnificent blowjobs, but for some reason, DeRenzy allows us to view Bryon orally pleasuring Lynn, followed by heated doggy-style fucking on a couch. The fact that this scene still works despite the requisite cock sucking is testament to de Renzy's skill as a director. Amber reeks of pure sex and slutiness in her tight, form-fitting outfit. It's no wonder that Byron could forego the blowjob and head straight for the bump and grind. A lesbian scene with the smoldering Keisha (looking somewhat funny in an Astro Boy-like hairstyle) and Ms. Lynn also had me all worked up, but since DeRenzy tends to edit his scenes rather tightly, their coupling is shorter than the standard girl-girl scene. However, we get perfectly sustained shots of Amber rimming Keisha, followed by some hot pussy slamming while the girls squeal in delight. The introduction of Keisha provides a nice transition back to Tom Byron, who gets finally gets a hearty blowjob by the lovely Latina, which then leads into some frenzied straight and tit-fucking. Naturally, Tom gets to release himself all over Keisha's natural chest, giving himself and the viewer a breather before the next (and best) scene begins.
One of the hottest threesomes I have ever seen in porn happens to feature the now renowned director John Leslie, and Latina hottie Melissa Melendez and Britany Stryker. Theirs is a fantasy sequence with Leslie assuming the role of a cop, as he directs the naughty girls in a ménage a trois that is as exhausting to watch as it must have been to film. In particular, the climactic ending blowjob to a multi-positioned fuck and suck fest focuses on John Leslie alternately inserting his cock in the anxious, panting mouths of these two very hungry women. DeRenzy places the camera in for a super-close up of the girls' heads as Leslie fucks their mouth in a hard and sometimes slippery frenzy, that ends in a satisfying, wet and sweaty dual facial. This scene is all heat and energy, edited perfectly into one highly erotic vignette.
As mentioned earlier, in transferring this film to DVD, VCA has chosen to remove a rather hot and energetic threesome involving Jamie Gillis, Shanna McCullough, and an African American actress whose name does not appear on the credits (indeed, there are no performer or production credits to speak of anywhere on the feature). This scene, which exists on my original videotape copy, involved some use of fetish-wear on the performers, including collars, leashes and other pseudo-submissive gear, and combined the sex with some elements of bondage. Although it may have been considered risqué at the time, this sexual set-up is really no more daring than any other vignette found in a typical Anabolic or Evil Angel release. However, viewers should therefore be warned that just like VCA's recently released EVERY WOMAN HAS A FANTASY 1 and 2 disc, this DVD is an edited edition of the original movie, but there is no consumer advisory anywhere on the packaging. This needless corporate censorship is all the more irritating since Shanna McCullough is not only given a top billing on the DVD packaging, but she is also mentioned in the "star biography' and "jump to a scene" extras on the disc. For some reason, other DVD reviewers seem to have overlooked this considerable screw-up, which may actually be a testament to the overall high erotic quality of the rest of the movie, in that they didn't notice the missing scene. Still, when it comes to purchasing this video, fans of Ms. McCullough should heed the old adage: Caveat emptor.
Visual quality on this DVD is amazingly good. The picture is crisp, and clean, with only minor problems stemming from the original film source. The sound up to par with the video, and beats the original VHS cassette to the ground. The extras on the DVD include a photo gallery that mistakenly uses stills from Alex DeRenzy's BABYFACE 2, featuring Candi Evans, which is another old VCA release. At least they saw fit to leave out any pictures of the missing Shanna McCullough.
Despite the occasional problems, VCA Classics is a great line of DVDs which assures that some of the top erotica of yester-decade is not forgotten. Even with a scene missing, LET'S GET IT ON! is still worthy of it's highly acclaimed classic status.
